What Precautions Can I Take to Reduce the Posibility of Crater Acne Scars?

I am 15 and terrified of getting crater acne scars. I have always had acne due to poor eating habbits when I was younger, and on top of that, mt mother got me in the habbit of poping my pimples since then. Two of my teachers have craters and thats not the path I want to take. I use sunscreen alot, and a scrub clensor. I would say my acne is moderate but then again, I pop my pimples all the time. If I start using retin a now, will I be able to reduce the likelyhood of craters?
