How to prevent permanent skin damage from Pixel Laser?

About 4 weeks ago, I had Pixel laser resurfacing to my upper chest.  I followed the pre and post-procedure recommendations to the letter. For the first two weeks, the expected burn and peeling occurred. After the skin peeled I was left with an inflammation reaction with hundreds of tiny bumps and a red, blotchy appearance.

I went to my dermatologist who said this may be permanent damage and it could get worse. She recommended Clydamiacin (antibiotic gel) to the affected area twice a day for two months to prevent infection and Hydrocortisone cream (1%) to the most affected area twice a day for two weeks.

Is there any other ways anyone knows about to clear this up and/or to reduce the likelihood of it being permanent damage? It is extremely depressing to look at masses of bumps where I once I had smooth skin.

NOTE: I do not normally have sensitive skin and I am 54 years old.
