I am about to have a mini facelift and wonder about the new research on not icing for bruising and swelling
Answer: No good evidence that cooling has significant influence on swelling after a facelift of any kind. Ice packs in the very early postoperative period may indeed decrease swelling until the injured tissues Seal. After this icing is primarily for comfort.

CONTACT NOW Answer: Icing after facelift Hi and thank you for your question and sharing your concerns. I am not aware of any research pertaining to icing after the facelift procedure, and it very well could be that "statistically", it didn't show to improve the severity or duration of swelling and bruising. In our experience, icing for the first 48 hours does seem to reduce the amount of swelling after a facelift and we always recommend it. It probably has something to do with reducing inflammatory surges in blood flow to the area thereby reducing how much fluid extravasates into the tissues causing swelling. After 48 hours, the effect is less noticeable and as other have mentioned, only used for comfort if need be. Hope that helps! Best, Dr. Roy.

Answer: Icing after facelift Choose a surgeon you trust and follow their postoperative directions. The recommendation for using ice or not is usually based on experience, nothing really scientific. Also using ice could cause a freeze burn of the numb skin.

Answer: Post-Mini Facelift Protocols vary Each surgeon has a slightly different protocol for after a mini facelift. This is based on their unique technique, what was done after surgery, and personal experience. Something such as icing after surgery does not really affect the quality of your outcomes. There is no scientific study to say icing or no icing results in a superior result. This is a minor point and you need not worry much about it.
