Should Permanent Makeup Clients Stop Using Latisse Prior to the Procedure?

I'm a cosmetic tattoo artist who did permanent eyeliner on a client using Latisse yesterday. She bled profusely and bruised around the procedure area. She was not taking any bloodthinners and hadn't had alcohol for weeks. Should permanent makeup clients stop using Latisse prior to the procedure?

Latisse and Permanent Makeup

Latisse is not known to prolong bleeding time and it is therefore not necessary to stop using Latisse before having permanent makeup. Before a procedure, we give patients a handout that lists medications and food supplements that prolong bleeding time so they know what to avoid. You may want to do the same.

Latisse and Tattooing

There are is NO published association between Latisse and prolonged bleeding. On the other hand, there are hundreds of foods and supplements which ARE associated with increased and prolonged bleeding (such as ginger, garlic, licorice etc). As someone who performs invasive procedures, you may wish to advise your clients which foods and supplements they should avoid to prevent similar episodes in the future.
