I was suggested to have a round of Fractora done to address minor wrinkles, acne scarring, and light melasma. I am 29 years old and Asian with skin type 3. I am not sure if it will make my melasma worse (so far I respond well to peels and had neutral response to Fraxel Restore Dual) and if a lower frequency should be used.
Answer: Fractora - Radio frequency alternative to laser in treating Asian skin Fractora allows a lot of versatility in successfully treating Asian or other ethnic skin. Pigmentation following laser is a substantial risk for all skin that has potential to pigment and especially Asian and Hispanic skin.Pre treating before any heat based treatment is wise as this helps prevent the melanin reaction - at least to a greater level than if nothing were done prior.Fractora is different from lasers in that it uses radio frequency and this radio frequency is delivered through tiny pins that penetrate the skin. The energy moves around beneath the skin surface instead of in a single column. Lasers are a straight shot of heat and easily excite melanin cells.Depending on where you had Juvederm injected, and at what depth, will determine if you could lose some of the filler integrity. Superficially injected hyaluronic gels could be degraded somewhat with Fractora.

Answer: Best Treatment for Melasma with Asian Skin I would not recommend Fraxel for treating Melasma. Please do your research and look into Cosmelan. It is far superior for treating Melasma with better and safer results. I have a great deal of patients who were treated in clinics with Fraxel and their melasma was worsened. Please consult a board certified dermatologist with expertise in Asian skin and lasers.

Answer: Fraxel is not a permanent cure for melisma in any skin type I love the Fraxel dual for patients of all skin types - I just adjust the parameters accordingly. But there is no permanent cure for melisma. It is also a roll of the dice if your melisma will worsen afterward. So I limit Fraxel to those melisma patients who practice vigilant sun protection, are using hydroquinone, and who understand that repeated treatments will be necessary. Regarding fillets, ideally I just wait until any swelling and/or bruising from the fillets have resolved - 1-2 weeks. But theoretically you could do on the same day.i hope this answer is helpful.Best wishes.

Answer: Fractora for Asian skin with melasma I have been using the Fractora now for several years. One thing I have found is that with the most superficial tip (Fractora allows the technician to use different treatment tips for different skin depths), it can help to break up melasma for some patients. Now I will tell you that it hasn't worked for everyone and I certainly wish I could tell you the exact parameters of why, but it's something I've been studying for about 6 months. Overall, I would say the majority of patients have seen results, it's just that some have been more dramatic than others. "This answer has been solicited without seeing this patient and cannot be held as true medical advice, but only opinion. Seek in-person treatment with a trained medical professional for appropriate care."
