Deep Lines and Hollow Circles After Blepharoplasty, What Can Be Done? (photo)

I had lower blepharoplasty because I had a little extra skin under my eyes. I chose an experienced plastic surgeon. He told me that he would pull the muscle up and I would be very happy with results. After surgery he informed me that he did not remove any skin. By pulling the muscle the skin would also get firmer. I am in a panic because Monday, Nov. 22 was 3 weeks since surgery. The skin is not firmer but I also have deep lines and hollow circles under my eyes that were not there before.

Recovery time after blepharoplasty

Hi Sue. Thanks for sharing your before and after images with us. Usually at three weeks after upper and lower lid blepharoplasties, many patients are happy with their results or can at least appreciate the improvement as a result of the surgery. Your picture reflects a moderate amount of persistent swelling extending down to your cheeks. It is certainly not something to panic about at this stage - your recovery process is simply taking longer than the... more

Be patient

You are understandably anxious about your appearance, but it is best to be patient. At 3-4 weeks, you definitely still have swelling, eyelid function has not fully returned yet and you will see some improvement. It is important to keep your eyes well-lubricated with eye drops and to gently massage the lower eyelids upward. Paper tape can also be applied to hold the lid up when you are home. You should discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon... more

Deep Lines and Hollow Circles After Blepharoplasty, What Can Be Done?

Honestly, nothing at three weeks after a lower Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) which sounds like a transcutaneous incision with muscle work. The swelling from this type of lower eyelid surgery can lead to an uneven look for a couple of month or longer IMHO. This is one of the reasons that I prefer the transconjunctival lower eyelid approach (through the inside of the lower eyelid) with an external skin pinch to remove the excess skin (if present). more

Blepharoplasty healing process

Hi! Thank you for your question. You are still going through the healing process from your surgery and will be for several months. What your currently may be going through is some swelling so I would wait before panicking. However, I do agree that it is difficult to accurately determine what is going on without a face to face consultation. I would recommend seeking a board certified plastic surgeon if you need to for peace of mind. Good luck! Dr.... more

3 weeks post blepharoplasty

Being that you are only three weeks out from a blepharoplasty, you have to be patient. There is still alot of swelling that will need to subside before you can get a clear picture about your result.

Revisional eyelid surgery

You need to wait a few months before deciding any corrective measures. There is swelling still present, along with muscle weakness and scarring which has caused your lower lids and outer corner to be pulled down. See an oculoplastic surgeon.

Blepharoplasty healing

Your looking at uneven swelling as there is likely a suture pulling on the lower lid muscle preventing that area from swelling which causes the line. The hollow may just be due to sweling above and below this pulled area. The stitches melt or pull through so the pulling softens and the swelling will resolve over the next month. If hollows persist after blepharoplasty then they were likely there before, they just become more obvious when the bags are removed. I fix that with fat transfer done... more

Blepharoplasty

You are lucky the surgeon did not remove skin because I do not see any extra skin in the before surgery photo. You had significant asymmetry especially in the upper eyelids and brow areas before surgery and it appears none of this was addressed by the surgery. You are very swollen in the after photo so it is impossible to say what your exact end result will be. Because your outer eye corners are lower than your inner corners the swelling makes things look worse than they would otherwise look... more

Give it some time after blepharoplasty and check back with your plastic surgeon.

I recommend that you go back to your plastic surgeon if you are concerned and see if he/she thinks you are on track for an eventual good result.
