I had a tummy tuck with full muscle repair 3 months ago. Since then I have had the normal healing with mid abdomin numbness etc. However I have pain under my left lower rib cage. It is difficult to explain but reminds me sometimes of when I was pregnant and my child's little foot would get under my rib cage area. Any idea what that could be?

Pain in rib cage after tummy tuck

The pain is related to irritation of the rib cage with the surgery. It is not unusual to experience this for a period of time. However, after three months it should probably be addressed. If you can tolerate it, you may want to go on a regimen of anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen. An injection in the area with a long lasting painkiller may also be indicated. Consult with your board certified plastic surgeon. All the best, Talmage J. Raine MD FACS more
