Slimmer Nose after Bridge Reduction

If the bridge is reduced and then osteotomies performed to close the open roof, the bridge will be narrower but not the rest of the nose. In fact the middle 1/3rd of the nose and tip will look wider relative to the bridge which has been narrowed.

Will Nose Get Slimmer After Bridge Reduction?

Reducing the nasal bridge is like taking the top off of a pyramid. The further down you go, the wider things become. This also causes what's called an "open roof deformity" or spaces between the nasal bones and the nasal septum. This is closed using lateral osteotomies which is referred to as "breaking the bones". Nose Width After Bridge Height Reduction

Jey, if you reduce the height of the nasal bridge during rhinoplasty and stop there, then the nose will actually look wider. Usually with rhinoplasty the dorsum can be shaved down and to narrow them, the bones are usually infractured.

Will my nose look slimmer?

Jay, reducing the bridge or taking down the dorsum will help contour any fullness or bumps on your profile. What makes the nose slimmer is breaking the bones and narrowing it. Regardless, if you have questions about rhinoplasty, I'd recommend you see a trained facial plastic surgeon for a consultation. He or she will be able to evaluate your individual anatomy and help explain to you what surgery can and cannot do. Dr. Cat Begovic M.D.

Will Nose Get Slimmer After Bridge Reduction?

Hi Jey, The simple answer is no. Usually if you reduce the bridge it will appear wider until you narrow the side bones ( osteotomies). This can make the nose look slimmer. Think of taking the roof off of a house and looking down at it. It wont appear slimmer until the walls are brought in. Best, Dr.S.
