Is It Normal to Feel a Painful Burning After IPL Treatment?

I have had 11 IPL treatments on my under arms but this last treatment i had this morning is painful and burning to the extent i have smothered in sudocrem and im holding my arms up so not touching clothing as is hurting. I have been having 100% last few times but my beutician did say the machine had just been serviced.. is this normal? thanks.
