Does a body life remove fat from hips, flanks and back area (muffin top) in addition to the tummy, butt and thigh areas?

Does it improve saddle bags? Is lipo ever performed or included in a body lift?

Hi Jurico.

Body lift which I now call a Lower Body Lift since we do Upper Body Lifts as well, is an excellent operation when done for the correct reasons. Also a true LBL which addresses the lower back, lifts and can augment the buttocks, lifts the lateral thighs, takes care of the mons and abdomen, should be done by a ps who is experienced in doing these. These are actually very complex procedures with potential for serious complications. Liposuction is usually done at the same time to  further improve your contour. When consulting check the before and after results and compare to realself to get a better feel for the surgeon.

Not all body lifts are created equal

That is a great question! What really matters here is scar placement. The lower your scar, as with a lower body lift, the better control you'll have over the saddle bags and buttocks projection. Higher based scars, like with a belt lipectomy, are good for love handles and will help prevent the muffin top. Be sure to see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with a lot of experience with lower body lifts and ask to see before and after pictures. Good luck!

A common first line of attack for patients who have lost weight is a body lift procedure.  Most plastic surgeons refer to a body lift as a circumferential body lift = belt lipectomy.  This procedure is essentially 3 procedures in one: extended tummy tuck + waist/lateral thigh lift + buttock lift (with the option of buttock augmentation).    A physical exam would be needed to make any recommendations.  Please visit with a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery to learn more about your options.

One of the most popular procedures after massive weight loss is a lower body lift.  If you are considering a lower body lift - this procedure (LBL) is also referred to as  circumferential body lift = belt lipectomy.  This procedure is essentially 3 procedures in one: extended tummy tuck + waist/lateral thigh lift + buttock lift.  The buttock lift can also include buttock augmentation.  The lateral thigh lift will help contour the lateral aspect of your thighs.  The procedure can taken between 5-7 hours depending on the amount of tissue/skin that needs removal/treatment.  Please see a board certified plastic surgeon to learn more about your options.

A body lift would include all of the items lifted.   Saddle bags can be improved if the thigh lift is done at the same time.  Liposuction can be performed at the same time based upon location and level of undermining.   Find a plastic surgeon with ELITE credentials who performs hundreds of liposuction  and body contouring procedures each year.  Then look at the plastic surgeon's website before and after photo galleries to get a sense of who can deliver the results.  Kenneth Hughes, MD Los Angeles, CA

Great question, yes a body lift is basically a circumferential tummy tuck with some minor changes when working with the back than the front. In the back you reduce the muffin top while tightening the buttock. The flanks are contoured the thighs are not necessarily addressed you need to speak to your surgeon regarding technique and of course the tummy tuck
