10 Years After Tummy Tuck, What Causes Occasional Internal Itching Sensation?

At least once a year I get an internal itching sensation around my navel and the area of the stomach muscles. Now I have read many, many reports of others that had the surgery and have this same symptom. All I want to know is what causes this to come and go? One thing that seems to come to my mind is, when I exercise my stomach muscles, this tends to flare the most. Could it be from re-tightening the muscles? How can I make this more bearable? Please help.

Tummy Tuck and Long Term Irritation?

Thank you for the question. I would suggest that you pay very careful attention to the area that seems to be “irritated” and see if you can pinpoint this area to demonstrate to your plastic surgeon. It is possible that a specific nerve is being agitated by a permanent suture… Best wishes. see video

Internal itching

Itch sensation after surgery is usually from an irritated healing nerve. 10 years after the surgery it is possible that exercise is irritating something. Possibly a permanent stitch used for the muscle tightening is causing you a problem. Sincerely, Martin Jugenburg, MD
