How Can I Tell if My TT Scar is Way to High, Post-Op 5 Weeks? (photo)

My concern is that my scar is too high. It’s 4"(inches) above my pubic area and 2.5" below my belly button & 1.5" above my hip bone. My underwear/bikini bottoms do not cover the scar. I'v included some pictures of myself before my TT. Did I have enough normal skin to stretch low enough for the scar to sit in a lower position? I heard that mentioned in another question? Could it still drop a few inches or am I looking at a possible scar revision? Did anyone else have a scar start out this high?

Tummy tuck scar placement

Yes, your scar seems to be too high. The location of scar should have been discussed with you and your plastic surgeon prior to your surgery. I like to place the scar low so that my patients can wear bikini. If some patients do not have enough excess skin, I will still make the scar low but have a small vertical scar. You should wait about a year for your skin to relax and have a scar revision if you do not like the scar position at that time.

Based upon the posted photos (THANKS-really helps) you either had a poor understanding of the planned operation. Or the procedure was not do with incision location in mind. Either way you may need a revision. Sorry.

Tummy Tuck Scar Placement?

Thank you for the question and picture. Yes, the incision does appear high to me. They will not necessarily move lower with time. I would allow full healing to take place ( one year) before contemplating revisionary surgery. at that time, tissue laxity can be evaluated to see if the scar can be lowered. Best wishes. see video

Scar Placement

It appears that your scar was placed in the deep skin fold on your lower abdomen. I do not think it will drop any over time and scar revision to lower it will be difficult unless you have enough loose skin to pull the abdominal flap down more. This is often not possible after a tummy tuck. At this point, I would recommend that you allow the scar to heal for a year. Many times the scar fades and its position will not bother you as much as it does now. more

Scar placement in tummy tucks

Thank you for your photos. Scar placement needs to be discussed and decided prior to surgery between you and your surgeon. You should've looked at the surgeon's prior before and after photos to assess his/her previous work. I ask my patients to bring in their underwear (no thongs) or swimwear they like to wear so I can hide the scar in planning my abdominoplasty incision. In general, I place my pubic incision 6cm (about 21/4") above where the labia majora come together and plan... more
