Risk of Motor Nerve Damage with Rhinoplasty
I've never heard of injury to the facial nerve (the motor nerve of the face) during rhinoplasty surgery. If there is a decrease in facial muscle movement after surgery, it is due to temporary swelling in the surrounding muscles.

Motor nerve damage unlikely from rhinoplasty
Motor nerves are usually not damaged during a rhinoplasty so therefore the facial muscles do not droop or drop postoperatively. The facial nerve branches for the muscles of expression are located deep in the facial structure, not over the nose.

Nerve damage after rhinoplasty
Sensory branches (feeling nerves) can be damaged with rhinoplasty resulting in numbness but it would be extremely unlikely for the motor branches (movement nerves) to be damaged

Facial Nerve is Not at Risk in Rhinoplasty
Hi Tia,
Motor nerves are not at risk during rhinoplasty surgery. If this is included in your rhinoplasty surgeon's informed consent form, time to see someone else. Do choose your rhinoplasty surgeon most carefully. Good luck and be well.

Rhinoplasty does not produce Motor Nerve Injury
All the motor nerves of the face arise laterally or within the eye socket. None are at risk during Rhinoplasty. If the facial muscles droop after a Rhinoplasty, then it is from some other cause such as a stroke. This would be exceptionally unusual, but could, conceivably happen.

Motor nerves shouldn't be damaged during a Rhinoplasty
The motor nerves, for the face, come from branches of the facial nerve that exist deep to the front of the ear and branch as they innervate the center of the face and nose. These branches should not be in harms way during a Rhinoplasty in any fashion. Decreased nasal movement, after Rhinoplasty, is more likely due to nasal tissue swelling and elevation of the tissues off the nasal skeleton, not motor nerve (facial nerve ) injury.

Motor Nerve Injury
The Motor or Facial Nerve can be injured during facial surgery. However I have never heard of a motor nerve injury during a routine Rhinoplasty.

No motor nerves are damaged in rhinoplasty, so there should be no effect on the muscles of the face with rhinoplasty. There is a sensory nerve to the tip of nose that is usually cut during rhinoplasty and that results in numbness to the tip of the nose only.
