Smart lipo is actually very safe. It is a type of laser liposuction that breaks up or "melts" fat which makes the procedure less painful to the patient and can be done under local anesthesia in the right hands. It also heats up the dermis in order to provide some skin tightening which occurs 3-6 months after the procedure. The loose skin is tightened by ~50%. The side effects are similar to regular liposuction and include post-op pain bruising, and surface irregularities. As far as the laser, if not done carefully, the skin can be burned.
