Hi, I am 122 lbs and 5'6". I am having surgery soon and am having trouble deciding on the profile of implant. My BWD is 12 cm and I am currently a 34 A bra and my left breast is slightly larger than my right one. My surgeon has recommended 380cc for the left and 420cc for the right breats in high profile OR... 350cc and 375cc slightly inflated in the moderate plus profile. Which implant profile would give me bigger slightly more natural breasts?

High Profile vs Moderate Plus Breast Implants

Dear Betterbreast in Calgary: Thanks for the question. Videos and links are provided below under "more". The choices that you list above are not radically different. Both sets of implants are approximately the same size and shape, so don't beat yourself up too much trying to decide. Choices are good. The implants options you list are 380cc for the left and 420cc for the right breast in high profile, or 350cc and 375cc slightly inflated in the moderate plus profile... more

What profile of implant

In my experience, high profile implants do not look as natural as medium or low profile. I use high profile when a patient has a narrow chest and wants a high volume or if I am doing a periareolar breast lift which tends to blunt the breast. In those cases a high profile improves the shape. Please be aware that natural is in the eye of the beholder. Lisa Lynn Sowder, M.D.

High profile breast implants need good cover

Anyone considering a high profile breast implant should have a look at them ahead of time, and carefully consider how much natural breast tissue they might have to cover the implant. Over time a thin breast will thin out further over the implant, and what you see on the table in the office will appear on your chest, unless of course well hidden by natural breast tissue. The implants are great for some, just take time to consider if you are one of them. Best of luck, peterejohnsonmd more

Choosing implant profile

It is in my practice to decide the profile of implant used based on patient goals, measurements, and use of sizers intra-operatively. In general, i think it is too much responsibility for the patient to decide on implants pre-operatively. Communicate your goals with your plastic surgeon and let him/her use their best judgment to reach your goals as much as possible.

Breast implants: bigger vs more natural

You have a dilemma when you say you want to choose between implants based on "bigger" but "more natural." Bigger will come from HP but also they will be less natural. The decision is between you and your doctor and is based on your own personal starting point and the "look" you are trying to achieve.

Implant profile

I tend to place more high profile implants becuause most of my patients are narrow and want the projection. It is a fielder's choice call, you have to decide with your surgeon based upon your anatomy and desire.

How to choose implants for augmentation

I find that the best choice of size is made in the operating room. For that reason I keep a complete stock of implants nearby and use temporary implants called sizers during surgery. Once I see the results I want I have the nurse open the correct implants. In general I do not recommend high profile implants unless a slender patient with a narrow chest is looking for significant volume. High profile implants are prone to wrinkling and rippling, so I usually end up... more

Implant size

If you are over 22 years old, i would suggest a silicone implant. you are quite slim and i think you will get a softer and more natural result. the higher the projection , the less natural your breasts will look. however an attractive breasts is not alwaysthe same thing as a natural appearing breast. you need to speak to your surgeon about your ultimate desire good luck

Implant choices

The available options depend on the width of your chest. The diameter of the implant is limited by that dimension. Different profile implants will give a different volume and appearance. The higher profile implant will result in a round, less natural appearance. It all depends on the outcome you are hoping for.

High profile implants for narrow breast width patients

I tend to choose a high profile implant for a patient that wants a little more volume in a breast with a narrow width- 12 cm is fairly narrow. If you want to look 'natural', I think either surgical option that you presented will fail. However, if you want a nice looking augmented breast, then choose the implant volume you like and select an implant profile that fits within the width of your breast.

Breast implants

You did not state what size you want to be. I think that the result that you are looking for is what will determine the profile. It appears you are talking about saline? I think you would do better long term with silicone. If you are 12 cm wide you would do good with about a 375 High profile silicone implant +/- 25 to 50 cc for the asymetry. This should get you to a C range. If you want to be a B then a moderate plus would be better at about 300. If you want... more
