In a mini tummy tuck, do the sutures finish just before the belly button, or do they finish under the belly button?

Sutures in the muscle during a mini tummy tuck

Traditionally, the suturing of the muscles during a mini tummy tuck goes up to the belly button. If one wanted to, they could lift the skin above the belly button and sutures could be placed there, but it is not as easy to do as during a full tummy tuck.

This has to be done judiciously to avoid an increased intra-abdominal pressure that would result in bulging/prominence of the upper abdominal wall. In most techniques, the incision is very low, just above the pubic area, and horizontal, side-to-side- not up and down. This allows the incision to hide in swimwear and undergarments.
