Micro-needling Effective for Melasma?

I have been fighting with melasma in my face for over a year, mainly using creams with hydroquinone, kojic acid while using good sunblock. However, I still do not see the results. Some have recommended laser treatment, however, this cosmetic surgeon says that Micro-needling is better and less invasive than laser. Is this true? Please advise.
