Which you consider better. The PS takes measurements and tells the patient a size range and profile that fits her diameter. Then: 1. Tells her to try different sizers in his office. 2. Makes the final decision during the surgery with temporary sizers. 3. Tells the patient to bring photos of women whose breasts she likes to define a final size. 4. Tells the patient a specific size and profile that fits her diameter. Which of these methods do you use and why?

Methods for Choosing Implant Size

In my practice I like photos from the patient (tells me what she thinks is good), questions about lifestyle, the Rice Test done at home by the patient (much better than trying non implants in the office...patient can try it with different outfits and can wear out for a few days), and once volume needed is established, finding the right width(style) to give me that., and then sizers as needed!

Expectations for augmentation

Ultimately, its your goals in augmentation combined with your surgeons judgement which dictates which implants are best for you. The challenge is to achieve your expectations safely and predictably. Many techniques is sizing/imaging/measuring etc have evolved. Every surgeon has their own way of evaluating breast augmentation patients. There are many safe, predictable and consistent techniques. Bringing in photos gives the surgeon an idea of how the patient wants... more

How to pick breast implants.

Hi. I wrote this article about a year ago. Hope you find it useful. 1) This is the most common type of question on RealSelf. 2) It is the surgeon's job to pick the right breast implants, not the patient's. Implant selection is really pretty technical. 3) Make sure your surgeon REALLY understands the look you want. Mentioning a cup size is not enough. Show your surgeon pictures of breasts you like. 4) Then your surgeon has to tell... more

Choosing the right implant

I always find out from the patient what their goals are first. Some bring in photos and others do not. I always examine the patient and record various measurements. Based upon our discussion, the patient's goals, and my exam, I come up with a plan and give my thoughts to the patient. I like when patients then try implants in a bra or do a "baggy test" at home to get a general idea in the range I suggested. As long as the patient's choice is in a range I am... more

Selecting Breast Implant Size

I use a combination of these. The measurements give a range to work with. Option 1 can refine the range and option 2 allows for a small range in choices based on option 3 (the patient's realist desires). Keep in mind that it is a process and not one method is the only way to do it. A surgeon's experience matters also.

How to pick the right size implant for you

Plastic Surgeons want to pick the size of implant that the patient would want. They each have their own way. My favorite is to use new technology that we have in 3d imaging (vectra system is the newest and in my opinion the best). This computer technology looks at your asymetries, breast volume, and then you can just punch in the style and size of the implant that you wish to put in, and it will give you an image that is a good idea of how they will look after surgery... more

Choosing Breast Implant Size?

Thank you for the question. As you know, there are many different ways plastic surgeons use to help patients achieve their goals with breast augmentation surgery. Although I have my preference I don't necessarily consider it “better” than anyone else's; as long as the plastic surgeon's technique achieves the patient's goals as consistently as possible. Keep in mind, no system or surgeon is perfect. Prior to proceeding with breast augmentation... more

Choosing the right breast implant

Thank you for your great question. There are a number of ways that surgeons and patients choose the right implant. First of all, the implant should match the dimensions of your breast. Breast measurements should be taken during your initial consultation and implant choices be made to match those dimensions. There are distinct algorithms that some surgeons use based on those measurements to give you a range of sizes of implants that would match your breast.... more
