I'm looking into getting tear through(orbital rim) and Jaw angle implants. I have to make a decision wether to use silicone or porex. How difficult is it to remove these type of porex implants after several years if god forbid I got an infection years later? Also I have heard that over time bone can grow over silicone Jaw implants does this affect the ease of removal.

Can Medpore cheek implants be removed?

Medor vs Silicone

Hi, Medpor implants are porous and allow tissue to grow into them. This is why medpor implants are notoriously difficult to remove. Silicone implants, when they are placed correctly, work well. The body will form a soft capsule around the implant so if you want to remove them for any reason, they come out very easily. I don't believe that bone will grow over them but the bone underneath can atrophy just a bit. Best, Dr.S.
