Demerol works well with Versed for Liposuctions.
Tiny amounts of Demerol 12.5 mg and Versed 1.25 mg given IV work great periodically to keep patients comfortable and relaxed throughout the whole liposuction procedure. Total given is usually Demerol 50mg and Versed 5 mg. and you are still awake and have a great experience and able to help the doc by moving in all the right positions to get the best results. Sincerely,

Medications for IV sedation
In general, I prefer to have the anesthesiologist perform the anesthesia. I leave it to them to decide which combination of medications they prefer but this may include combinations of propofol, fentanyl, and/or ketamine.

Laser lipo
You must be in the healthcare field yourself. Versed is a potent hypnotic sedative. This allows you to forget the pain if any is involved. The only significant potential for pain is the application of tumescent. This has lidocaine which will numb the skin and fat. I use fentanyl, a very potent analgesic. Most often, people rest, sleep, or talk throughout the procedure.

Anesthesia for liposuction
Every case must be judged by its own specific facts. Your health, age, coexistent medical diseases and your pain threshold. Some patients get Valilum or Ativan by mouth prior to the local anesthetic, but the risks of such medicaton must not be taken lightly.

IV sedation for local anesthesia
Firstly, the type of lipo (laser, VASER, or neither) doesn't determine the meds used for sedation. Probably the most coomon technique is to use some IV sedation with versed and other meds in addition to the local. You should ask what the specific preferences of your surgeon are (lipo is surgery) regarding the best way to keep you comfortable and safe during the procedure.

Local anesthesia works with Laser liposuction
Laser liposuction, and other kinds of liposuction, can be performed with local anesthesia. Lidocaine is the local anesthetic used to numb the area. Pills or i.v. meds are sometimes used to make the patient more comfortable. Versed is an i.v. medication that is like a strong valium. Patient's vital signs must be monitored closely with the use of iv medicines. Small amounts of fentanyl or demoral are often combined with the versed for pain relief...

Liposuction and medications
I prefer to perform liposuction with a board certified anesthesiologist givng the medications. I think it is safer, it allows me to focus on the surgeyr, and overall I think the patients are more comfortable.

Why worry about anesthesia meds
I don't know why you would worry about this. This is in the control of your anesthesiologist to keep you comfortable and pain free though out your procedure. I don't give any IV meds without my anesthesiologist present to monitor the patient
