What Does It Mean to Be Board Certified in Dermatology?

If my doctor is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology, what exactly does that mean? What procedures are they specially trained to do?

Board Certification in Dermatology

Being Board Certified in Dermatology means that a doctor has had extensive residency training in all manner of skin diseases including skin cancer. They have passed rigorous exams to be determined to be a safe practitioner of dermatology. Please note that this doesn't mean that they are a plastic surgeon any more than that they are a cardiologist or radiologist.
