I'm 14 and have recently made the discovery I have tubular breasts. I already asked 2 doctors and they said that I should wait until I am 18. However, I have done research and was able to find that tubular breasts don't go away on their own and require treatment. Based on experience, pills and creams don't help. So I'm just wondering, do they ever go away? If no, may I please undergo surgery? I sadly don't have any pictures. Also, are there other surgical options besides implants? Thank you!
Answer: Do Tubular Breasts ever go away? True tubular breasts with a severe skin skin contraction around the breast and puffy protruding nipples are unlikely to change on their own. However you are 14 and still have a chance for significant breast to glandular tissue growth. If after you are 1820 years of age you still want tubular breast correction then you can undergo it. However it would be very unwise to do this before your breast growth is complete. Good luck and please be patient. Answer: Tubular breasts Thank you for an excellent question. Tubular breasts are formed as the result of a constricting band at the base of the breasts. As the breasts develop, the ring prevents the expansion of the breasts in all directions, and creates a breast that has a tubular shape. This includes:-a long breast with a widened distance between the breasts-a short distance from the areola to the inframammary fold-a puffy, or herniated areolaBecause the band is permanent if not surgically treated, tubular breasts do not go away on their own. Likewise, there are no creams or pills that can improve the breast shape. There are a variety of surgical options to improve the breast shape, including release of the constricting band, reshaping of the breasts, and placement of an implant. One or more of these aspects can be combined to restore the breast shape that you are hoping for. Typically, we wait until your breasts have reached full maturity before contemplating this type of surgery. When the time comes, I would suggest consulting with a plastic surgeon to discuss the specific options for your breasts.Best of luck.Jeff Rockmore

Answer: Tuberosity Unfortunately, tuberosity does not go away. The reason that plastic surgeons advise delay in treating it surgically is to allow for breast growth which is not complete until at least age 19. Surgical options include implants, reduction and/or release of constriction depending upon the individual case. Don't waste your energy and money on pills and creams which cannot be of any benefit whatsoever.

Answer: There are many features of a "tubular" breast. However there is wide variation as to the severity of the tubular breast shape. In the most mild form, especially if you don't want larger breasts, a minor breast lift/areolar reduction can bring about more harmony to the over all appearance. However most patients want more fullness and breast augmentation is the only option. You are definitely too young to undergo any type of breast surgery and should wait at least after age16-18.

Answer: Tuberous breasts Dear Librapal,Thank you for the question. Unfortunately tubular or tuberous breasts do not go away and you can't grow out of them. There are degrees of tuberous breasts that range from mild to severe with features of a high fold and a constricted lower breast and a wide space between the breasts and a large Areola. The treatment is usually surgical with implants to increase the lower portion of the breast and to reduce the size of the Areola and to give the breast a more rounded perky shape. It is important to see a board certified plastic surgeon who is experienced in performing procedures to correct tuberous breasts. You may need to wait a year or two until your breasts have finished developing before having surgery. Best of luck...Dr. Khuthaila
