Breast Augmentation and Cancer

Hello Txtiana, Let's get something straight: Breast implants do not cause cancer of any kind, nor do they cause any other systemic disease. They are the most scientifically studied medical devices on the planet with more data than any other. There is no real scientific study that has implicated breast implants with lung cancer. Unfortunately, there are many holistic organizations that produce very sophisticated and official looking studies that are designed... more

Breast implants have no relation to the lungs or to lung cancer

Hello, There is no direct connection between breast implants and lung health or lung cancer. Lung cancer is most frequently associated with environmental exposure such as smoking. Breast implants are simply silicone shell implants with either saline or silicone interiors that are outside of the chest wall. All the best, Dr Repta

Breast implants have not been linked to breast or lung cancer!

No it is not true that breast implants are associated with an increased risk of any cancer or other serious illness. Breast implants have been scrutinized thoroughly and are the subject of several ongoing studies to monitor the performance of the implants as well as any adverse health events in women who have them. There has been recent anxiety about a rare form of lymphoma that has been found in the scar tissue surrounding breast implants in a very small number of patients. The... more

Breast Implants Not Related To Any Type of Cancer

There are no scientific studies that have shown that breast implants cause breast cancer, lung cancer or ANY type of cancer. After 15 years you may want to have them removed so as not to have a focus of worry for yourself or because you no longer enjoy having them but do not let cancer phobia be the reason.

Is it True that Lung Cancer is 3X More Common in Women with Implants?Answer:

No cause, but maybe an association (Are more women with breast implants smokers?) and certainly nothing to worry about. As far as your discomfort, if it is pain on the ribs and not on your breast itself, I have seen Costochondritis frequently present like this…Give it time and use medication like Motrin aound the clock till it goes away. But there is no reason to remove your implants!!

Breast Augmentation has NO RELATIONSHIP to lung cancer

No, it is not true that pulmonary malignancy is more common in women with breast implants, breast augmentation, or any aesthetic breast surgery. Tobacco smoke, however, does increase your chance of developing lung cancer.

No connection between lung cancer and implants

I am not aware of any connection between lung cancer and implants; you can be certain the FDA would not have approved breast implants if this were the case. Can you please provide the source of the article. There are many reasons one could have the discomfort you describe, and at your age, and as a non-smoker, lung cancer is at the bottom of the list. I hope that will put you a little at ease. If you have large implants, the weight of large implants could be the source of your pain... more

Breast Implants and Lung Cancer?

Thank you for the question. I am very interested in reading the study you refer to. Given your symptoms you may want to seek consultation in person with a well experienced or certified plastic surgeon. It would not be unheard of if you decide to have breast implants removed for “peace of mind” but you should make this decision as objectively as possible. I hope this helps.
