What is Red Lump on Side of Neck?

I have a red lump that looks like a large zit,on the side of my neck under my ear. It is very sore, hard, red, and the skin frequently peels off the top. I thought it was just a large zit but I have had it for more than a month and a half now, and it hasn't come to a head.

This should be biopsied. It looks small enough that an excisional biopsy would not only tell you would this is, but eradicate the problem.
If you squeezed this, it might be a an epidermal inclusion cyst ( follicular cyst, "sebaceous cyst") that you ruptured and created a foreign body reaction. One month history of a red bump on the neck
You should see a board certified dermatologist to evaluate your lesion. There are so many different things that it could be and the dermatologist might suggest to have it biopsied so that a definitive answer is obtained.
