More specifically, I have a hump of fatty tissue at the base of my neck from years of hunching over to hide my chest. An acupuncturist once told me that it was cushioning my spine's poor posture. So my question is - Will this little hump decrease or go away as I work on improving my posture post-surgery?
Answer: Reasons for Fat on upper back - Buffalo Hump Although an exam is necessary, from your photo and description it appears that you have a collection of fat in the upper mid line of your back. This is also called a "buffalo hump" and is not related to large breasts by themselves. It is often seen in those that use steroids, have an adrenal or other endocrine imbalance, or often without explanation. It will not improve by breast reduction alone. It can easily be reduced by liposuction but the cause should first be identified.

Answer: Hump on back The hump on your back could be either from curvature of the thoracic spinner from fat accumultion. If it is fat accumulation , then liposuction might be of some benefit. If it is spine curvature, a breast reduction would help in preventing it from worsening so could be of considerable benefit.

Answer: Posture after breast reduction This hump is probably unrelated to your breast issue. However, most of my patients do experience an improvement in their posture after breast reduction surgery.

Answer: Hump on neck is not from poor posture. Thanks for your photo. I have no doubt your posture may be compensating for large breasts, and breast reduction can indeed help you to improve your posture. But I suspect that this hump is not related to posture. It could be due to medications, or simply fatty growth in this location.Either way, ask your breast reduction surgeon to evaluate this as well, and ask his/her advice. It will not go away with improved posture, only by surgical removal. Best wishes! Dr. Tholen

Answer: Hump on back I am not sure that this hump is from poor posture. You may have a lipoma, or benign fatty tumor there, particularly if it seems to be getting larger. For some reason lipomas are very common at that site.
