I had a midfacelift through a lower eye approach in April. The doc was going to do a lateral canthotomy ended up having to do a lateral canthoplasty in order to suspend the tissues. Now, my eyes are smaller and slitlike when I smile. Can anything be done to fix this? I'm about four months out of my surgery.
Answer: Wait before acting I think you should consider waiting before acting on the eyes. You should consider waiting 6 months after surgery before making conclusions about your surgery. Also, correct me if I'm wrong but on your previous pre op photos, I see a little scleral show, where a little white is showing below the iris along the lower lid. This is not a normal lid position aesthetically speaking. On the post op photo, I see no more scleral show, which is a normal appearance for most people. So he changed your abnormal appearing lower lid to a normal appearing lower lid position with his surgery. I know people are accustomed to seeing their faces a certain way and they often want it changed back to the way they are accustomed to seeing it, but take a look at it because in my opinion, he restored your lower lid anatomy to a normal appearance for most people. If the pre and post op photos are mixed up, or there are different views, then what I see could be different and my opinion could change. Good luck and wait then reevaluate...look at the pics of magazine models eyelids...if anything, maybe he didn't explain to you the results of his surgery and caught you unprepared for the changes.

Answer: Eyes smaller You are still really early after surgery. Canthoplasties and canthopexies always loosen up. They have to be made tighter in the beginning to account for this. Don't worry.

Answer: Change in Eye Shape after Blepharoplasty First of all, 4 months postop following a lateral canthoplasty and midfacelift is still early. Both of these procedures can alter the position and tightness of the lower lid (which is why they are likely being performed). But at this stage, there is still much edema (swelling) that exists and therefore it will be more difficult to evaluate the "final" result. While massage of this region may help, I would recommend a visit to your Cosmetic Surgeon to review expectations and timeframes.

Answer: Endoscopic Browlift Candidate Dear Chi.girl1972, Personally, if you came into my office I probably would have suggested an endoscopic brow lift to help bring symmetry to the brow area, lift the brow and mid face region. You would still be a candidate for this procedure however I would suggest waiting some time for the healing of your previous surgery and then seek further consultation. To see photographs of before and afters of endoscopic brow lift and how this procedure can be beneficial to patients with your same concerns you can click the web link below and go to brow lifts. All of the brow lifts on my website have been done with an endoscopic technique and it is a procedure that helps allow a natural looking appearance, no visible incisions, a speedy recovery while turning back the signs of aging. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
