My dermatologist put me on tetracycline(sp?) for 3 mo. for acne. i had reservations about long term use, but was desperate. the antibiotic didn't help. if anything my acne was worse! however, i had bronchitis a few months later and went on the following: Levaquin 500mg, 1 per/day for 10 days, when that didn't work they put me on Bactrim 800mg, 2/day for 10 days. At the end of it all my skin looked AMAZING! i don't want to go to extremes, but i want that gorgeous skin back... WHAT CAN I DO?

Antibiotics for acne treatment

Being on antibiotics for longer than 2-3 months, continuously is not recommended, as it can promote bacterial resistance, and the antibiotic will start to decrease in effectiveness over time.  Low-dose doxycycline or intermittent use of antibiotics would be options to consider.
