Sleeping on Side after Tummy Tuck?

Thank you for the question.

It is always best to ask specific post operative instructions/ questions of your operating surgeon who knows you and your situation best.

Generally speaking, my patients are able to sleep on their side ( fetal position) starting about 2 weeks after surgery.

I hope this helps.

Sleep Position After Tummy Tuck

Following a tummy tuck procedure, patients are generally most comfortable sleeping on their back with their hips flexed (lounge-chair position) or on their side with their hips flexed (fetal position).  There is no medical reason why patients cannot sleep on their side immediately following a tummy tuck.  This should be dictated strictly by your own comfort level.  Having the hips flexed generally takes pressure off of the abdominal incision and feels more comfortable for most patients.  As always, it is best to follow instructions of your own plastic surgeon who is familiar with your specific situation.
