More often than not liposuction is NOT the answer, but in your case...

FAR more often to get the flattest tightest tummy you need a tummy tuck.  Occasionally, and maybe in your case, you can get almost as good a result with liposuction but SO MANY PATIENTS ARE DECEIVED into thinking that liposuction can do as well as a tummy tuck.  That is simply not the case as liposuction doesn't enhance skin shrinkage and doesn't tighten loose muscles or remove excess skin.  It is fine to have lipo but don't expect it to give you the tightest... more

More often than not, Liposuction is the answer.

From your photos, you need only liposuction and should have a great result.  Expect to be back to work in only 2 days and spend no less than about $5-6000.  Sincerely, David Hansen,MD

Tummy Tuck or Liposuction?

Thank you for the question and pictures. The operation that is “best" for you will be based on your exact goals and physical examination. For example, “seeking a flat stomach” may mean different things to different people; communication with your plastic surgeon in person is critical. If there is a failure to communicate exactly your goals are there is a high likelihood that you will be disappointed with the results of surgery. I would suggest... more

PHOTO: Tummy Tuck versus Liposuction

This is a difficult diecsion based on the photo but my guess is that you would do well with a mini tummy tuck and lipo. However, you could get a decent result with a faster recovery using liposuction.

Liposuction is a good option for you if...

Hi there, and thanks for your inquiry. You seem to have good quality of skin (younger, more elastic skin will have the best results post-surgery) and are not excessively overweight. Based upon these pictures, liposuction may be sufficient. However, the best way to assess your most beneficial option is to see a qualified surgeon in person.

Which is best, tummy tuck or liposuction?

Liposuction alone is possible, however you need to be seen preferably by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. Depending on the laxity of your skin will determine if you are a candidate for liposuction only. If the skin won't tighten up enough, you will not be happy with the result. To get the flattest tummy possible, a tummy tuck is the best procedure along with a waist enhancement which will get rid of love handles. However, you should not have a tummy tuck until you have had all the... more

Liposuction or Tummy Tuck

This is a very difficult difference to explain in wrting and then the patient's own wishes and desires have to be considered.  You will need to discuss this with some one in consultation at the time that you can be examined.  The main issue is to have this discussion with some one that is equally versed in both procedures so you are not being "sold" the only procedure that is offered by that particular provider. You have been given a lot of opinions on... more

Lipo or tummy tuck?

From what I can tell from your pictures, you seem to have good skin quality and not much rectus diastasis. My vote is for liposuction. It will remove the underlying fat along your abdomen and love handles without a large lower abdominal scar as required by a tummy tuck. We have been doing lipoabdominoplasty in my practice which seems to improve recovery and decrease complications, but I don't think you are a candidate for that  either. Plain old liposuction is your answer.... more

Liposuction versus tummy tuck for the abdomen

Hi Adidas, You look like a good candidate for liposuction. Tummy tucks are needed in patients with extra skin and fat, as well as muscle laxity (looseness) of the abdominal wall. You look simply to have excess fat with good skin quality. Hope this helps. Best of luck.

Liposuction works best for a small bulge

Looking at your photos - you look like a great candidate for liposuction. You could even try Liposonix - if you wanted a non-surgical alternative.

Options for abdomen; Liposuction or Abdominoplasty

From your pictures, having young, relatively tight skin, you should do well with just liposuction. This will flatten the abdomen and “love handles” significantly. However, you may still have some prominence of the abdomen due to fat around the stomach and bowel below the muscle. A diet is the only thing that will change this latter fat.

When to consider a tummy tuck vs. liposuction

Your question is a very good one because there are advocates of certain types of lipo (these are the brand-name procedures) that are offering it as an alternative to a tummy tuck. The idea is appealing because no one wants the bigger operation and the scar. However, no lipo procedure can tighten the skin enough to replace a tummy tuck, and many tummy tuck patients especially those with prior pregnancy have a muscle separation that cannot be corrected with exercise or repaired with lipo.... more

Liposuction or tummy tuck for the abdomen

During consultation the surgeon examines your skin and subcutaneous tissue. In addition, you're put through maneuvers to examine the weakness of  the fascial envelope that holds the muscle in place. If the muscle bows outward with certain positions of posture, then a tummy tuck would be necessary, in addition (probably) to liposuction. There may be more risk when both procedures are done together so ask your plastic surgeon if this is a concern.

Liposuction vs tummy tuck

It is difficult to say from the signle photos whehter or not liposuction alone will be adequate. If you have alot of loose skin then a tummy tuck may be the better option.

Liposuction vs. Tummy tuck

Dear Adidas, If you have loose skin below the belly button then you would benefit from a tummy tuck otherwise liposuction is enough to get rid of the fat.

Tummy tuck

If there is excess skin and fat - tummy tuck.  If you only have excess fat, then liposuction is the answer.

Tummy tuck needed with liposuction or not depends on the condition of your abdomen

While your abdomen in the photo looks flat it is important to evaluate the lightness of your skin. If when you sit down there are loose rolls of skin and fat then you need to have a abdominal paniculectomy (tummy tuck) with your liposuction. If your skin is tight then liposuction may be a good answer for contouring your abdomen, hips and other areas of your body. We have yet to see a series of consecutive patients in which there has ever been consistent tightening of the skin with any... more

Lipo or tummy tuck

Based on your pictures you should do well with liposuction, with regular lipo you get about 10% shrinkage of the skin and you should look fine with that. There is a new device that is being used where you can get up to 30% shrinkage but it is in the FDA approval stages and few doctors have it yet. It is called Bodytite by the company Invasic., we offer It if you met there requirements.

Liposuction or tummy tuck

Hi Adidas, There's no need for a scar across your abdomen if there's not extra skin below your belly button.  Although a tummy tuck is the definitive operation for extra fat and loose rectus muscles, it's at the expense of a permanent scar.  That scar has to outweigh the alternative.  If you're a medium sized person and lipo is going to make a big difference, don't forget that liposuction with a diet and exercise program that doesn't plateu in a few... more
