I am a 60 year old healthy woman with cankles and fat knees. I want liposuction on both but due to my age I have lost my skin elasticity. I am desperate to wear a dress or shorts. I understand a lot of Drs don't want to do this due to my excess skin but feel I would still look better than I do now. can the skin be pulled and tightened like an arm lift? I am ok with scars. I am maybe 10 to 20 lbs over weight and very healthy. Please help me.thanks
Answer: Liposuction of Legs for Sixty Year Old?
From your description of loose skin in the area, I think that liposuction of those areas would be ill advised. A more reasonable approach may be some sort of thigh or leg lift, but an examination or at least pictures would be necessary to substantiate this. Find a plastic surgeon with ELITE credentials who performs hundreds of body contouring procedures each year. Look at website before and after photos and decide which surgeon can give the results you desire. Kenneth Hughes, MD Los Angeles, CA

Answer: Knee liposuction
You are correct that, if your skin isn't elastic in the knee area, liposuction will produce increased sagging. Knees are very tough areas to work on because the outcome may well be worse than the starting point and no ethical plastic surgeon wants to go into the OR under those circumstances. Knee scars can be particularly ugly because of the tension in that area as well.

Answer: Liposuction requires good skin elasticity If your skin is lax and unable to contract, it is very likely you will be disappointed with liposuction. With a goal of wearing shorts skin laxity and even a scar makes a good result difficult to acheive.

Answer: Liposuction of ankles and calves very effective.
Hi.
This point is not stressed in the video, but women who have liposuction of the ankles and calves (and knees) are among the happiest patients. There is no excess skin in the lower leg, so that is not a problem. Your age is not an issue if you are in excellent health.

Answer: Ankles, calves, and fat knees.
Ankles, calves, and fat knees present no problem with excess skin. I have done many over a 30 year career and have seen zero that needed skin excess excised at any age. Many of my patients were in their 60s and 70s. If your health is fine and you have no circulation problems and if you do not smoke or have diabetes you are a fine candidate. 20 lb excess is next to nothing so certainly do not worry about that. You need to find an American Board of Plastic Surgery surgeon that has very extensive experience in ankles, calves and knees and go for a consult or possible 2 consults. Consults usually are free. Then go have the surgery. You will need support hose for 2 to 3 weeks all the time when up and thereafter on an as needed basis. If you find the right doctor in your neighborhood that has the experience with these areas you will be fine. My Best, Dr C
