Distension after Lipo could be a lot of things

Liposuction will remove fat, and it won't come back. If you are still larger than you want to be, you may not have had all the available fat removed, you might even at this late date stlll have some swellling, or you might have gained weight and negated the effects ofthe lilposuction. Has your body weight remained the same or increased? Remember that diet and exercise are the only solutions to excess fat.

Fullness depends on many things

Reasons for post liposuction abdominal fullness are many and can only be sorted out in person and by examining you. Possibilities are: excess fat from weight gain, inadequate fat removal, or not being a good candidate for liposuction in the first place. Others are muscle laxity, intraabdominal fat not accessable with liposuction and skin excess.

Fullness of Abdomen

Dear Pkashunger, it is difficult to answer your question without a proper history and physical and possibly an Ultrasound or CT scan of your abdomen. There can be several reasons for your fullness and the only way to determine this is by doing a proper assessment. This does not sound like the normal course of events after the procdures you have had performed. There are some individuals that have fullness of the lower tummy no matter what is done to tighten the tissues, With Warm... more

Several issues

Distention, as my other colleagues have pointed out is a term that probably isn't quite accurate. Fullness of the abdomen can be due to continued intraabdominal fat. That is people can gain weight within the abdomen and this will show up usually as upper abdominal fat. The other issue is did you have a pretty good abdomen after the tummy tuck? Some surgeons do not use permanent suture to repair the muscles. Studies have shown that you must or there will be a recurrence of the diastasis... more

Distension after liposuction?

The term distension usually refers to bloating or obstructive type symptoms. If you truly have distension then you should go to a doctor to be evaluated. If on the other hand you feel you still look "full" in the mid-section, then that could be from inadequate liposuction of fat that is deep to the fascia ( visceral fat). Visceral fat can not be removed by liposuction.

Hard to answer without examining you

If you still have "distention" over a year after liposuction, then it is very likely unrelated to your liposuction. One "distention" that could be present as a result of liposuction is a seroma (a persistent fluid collection). Another is small areas that were unevenly liposuction. If these are not the case, and you are referred to an overall distention, then it is not likely due to the procedure. So, what is causing the distention? The most likely possibility is that you... more

Persistent distended abdomen after liposuction; you can't blame the fat.

The abodminal wall and structure is composed of the skeleton (ribs & hips), enlcose organs, muscle, fat and skin, Liposuction only treats the fat. If you have loose skin, poor muscle tone, large/flared ribs or enlarged organs/fluid, the liposuction will do little to correct your problem. Of course, it is possible if all else is in order that you could benfit from additional liposuction but you may need to discuss this with your surgeon or other surgeons.

I am afraid you have a disappointing result.

Hi! I cannot tell you exactly what you need done without examining you, but you are not as flat as you were hoping to be. So you probably need either better liposuction, or an abdominoplasty, depending on your anatomy. My web site has links to plastic surgery societies, where you can find a good surgeon near you.

What do you mean by distention?

It all depends on what you mean by distention. Do you mean a curve to the wall of the abdomen? Do you mean continued fatty areas? Many women who complain about fulless in the abdomen after liposuction either had liposuction performed when they really needed an abdominoplasty (tummy-tuck) to fix the muscles of the abdominal wall. Especially after pregnancy, the muscles can stretch and separate and leave the abdomen with a curve that is not fixed with liposuction alone. An... more
