Best Kind of Liposuction to Smooth out Results from 20-year-old Lipo?

I had liposuction when I was 19 (almost 20 years ago) to my outer thighs. I now have sever lumps, ripples, and indents that seem to be increasing as I age. I'm considering another lipo proceedure and was wondering if there is a certain one which provides the best results used on areas previously lipo'd. Thanks for any information.

An Experienced Liposuction Surgeon Using the Micro Canulas Gives the Best Results!

Revision liposuctions are fairly easy for a doc with experience with the micro canulas and especially make sure he is doing it under tumescent local anesthesia and not general anesthesia so he can fine tune it even more.

Revision Liposuction

There is no particular liposuction method that gives better results than other.  It is the surgeon that is the difference not the machine used.  So I would seek out a plastic surgeon that is board certified and one that you feel good with. Having said that, revision liposuction to address rippling and dents is very difficult and can only result in slight improvement. Good luck

Secondary liposuction twenty years later

The concern with performing liposuction in the same area, twenty years later, is that aside from working through an area that has scarring (more collagen is produced in the area that helped shrink down the subcutaneous compartment right after your procedure) your skin having aged is not the same and the elasticity can be expected to not give you the same result you had two decades ago. The skin should be examined before a doctor can tell you if liposuction can help. If there is a... more

Ripples and dents 20 years after liposuction is likely aging

It is hard to tell from your question if the dents had always been present after liposuction in your teens, or have just started to appear and are becoming worse over time. Cellulite is common in the side and back of the thigh, especially as one ages into the 40's. Liposuction has a poor record when applied to treat cellulite, though selective liposuction and fat transfers into dents can help control the dimpled appearance. We prefer to suction these areas by hand using a syringe technique... more

Very skilled plastic surgeon needed for revision of liposuction.

Hi. 1) It's not just a particular kind of liposuction that will help you. You need careful evaluation of the problem by a very competent plastic surgeon. The surgeon then makes a detailed surgical plan. 2) Your thighs may be improved by a combination of tumescent liposuction and fat injections. Rarely skin removal is needed. And you have to be realistic. Expect only some improvement.

Revision liposuction

Revision liposuction is tough. Microliposuction is typically performed in the hills, fat injection into the valleys. In severe cases of post liposuction irregularities, the results are never perfect. The technique is very surgeon dependent. If the skin is sufficiently loose, a resection may be in order. Unfortunately the lateral thighs are a poor place to place an incision unless the problem is severe, but for severe cases a resection can give great relief to the patient.... more

Lumps after liposuction

Since it has been twenty years since your surgery, you cannot be sure if all the irregularities you see are the result of the liposuction or partly caused by aging or pre-existing cellulite. I like to use the syringe liposuction method since it can very accurately remove very small amounts of fat in in a limited area. This way, you can selectively remove fat from a variety of areas and even use this fat to graft to fill in depressions. If there is skin laxity involved, you might need to... more

Focus on the surgeon not the particular method the surgeon uses

It is so easy to get dazzled by the technology: lasers, ultrasound, etc. At the end of the day, it is not the means used that seems to make the difference, it is the surgeon. No one speciality does liposuction better than another. However, you surgeon should be board certified in general plastic surgery, dermatology, facial plastic surgery, or oculoplastic surgery and devote considerable energy to performing liposuction. If your surgeon plans to perform surgery under general... more
