Lipo vs minitummy tuck

William Bruno, MD answers: Smart Lipo or mini-tummy tuck?

I'm 33 years old and have three kids all naturally birthed (no c-section).  I am 5 feet tall, 120lbs and in my lower abdomen I have some pockets of fat. It's noticeable when I sit down, it's not saggy, but it certainly doesn't look good.

Do you think I would be a better candidate for Smart Lipo or for a mini tummy tuck?

The appropriate procedure for you depends on the quality of your skin, fatty deposits and condition of your abdominal wall muscles.  If you have had several children, you may have some stretch marks or loose skin of the lower abdomen with a weakened abdominal wall. If this is the case, then a tummy tuck or mini-tummy tuck will give the best result.  If on the other hand, your skin is firm with good elasticity and your lower abdominal bulge is due to excess fat and not to weakened muscles, then liposuction may be the answer.

A board certified plastic surgeon will be able to examine you and determine which procedure is best for you.

Best wishes,

The infraumbilical or lower abdomen may benefit from either a mini tummy tuck or liposuction. The decision arises from the amount of skin redundancy, skin elasticity, presence of stretch marks, and the amount of abdominal wall laxity.
