Latino Male of Mexican Descent. Can I Use a Chemical Relaxer to Put my Hair Down?

My hair is naturally spiked! As in straight up hair that never tilts or stays down. My dad has that smooth shinny curly black hair and my mom had blond hair.The only time I actually like it is when it's short cut but it grows super fast. So will chemical relaxers be my answer to finally rest my hair? if I leave my hair to grow, the weight wont put it down. I will however look like a porcupine. It just grows straight up like a stick. If not, or you know of a better alternative please let me know.
