Scar Removal: Q&A

Is Laser Treatment for Scars Usually Successful?

I have a seven year old hypertrophic scar that is partially faded and have been looking for an effective treatment. Would a laser surgery be recommended for this? If so, about how long would it take to see improved results?

Lasers for Scars

Once you develop a scar , you can not eliminate it, but you can imrpove the appearance of it.  FIrst off, cortisone injections in the office can help flatten out raised scars.  Secondly, lasers such as the V-Bream or Fraxel can be used to improve the appearance.  They can eliminate redness and help make scars look smoother.

Laser Treatment of Mature Scars is INEFFECTIVE

A scar is permanent. It cannot be erased. In some cases, scars can be revised and improved upon by re-operating on them. While some lasers can modify the circulation inside young, immature scarring once the scars mature they cannot be affected by lasers. Depending on the location of your scar it may be able to be revised surgically and result in a more acceptable result.
