This depends on the scar, how much tension there is still on the scar, and the problem. If it is red, raised, and getting bigger, then earlier is better than later. Perhaps 3-4 weeks is safe to start small areas of laser treatment. Lower energy though.

Fractionated laser resurfacing for surgical scars is safe

I agree with Dr. Kaplan that fractionated laser resurfacing for surgical scars is very safe even quite soon after the surgery. A week or two even. I have personally treated some of my surgical scars 1-2 weeks post-operatively with terrific results. Furthermore, I agree with Dr. Kaplan that if your surgeon is not the one treating you, I strongly recommend that you seek their advice and recommendation as to whether it is a good idea.
