At a consultation, the doctor and I agreed on 430 cc (silicone) but I was curious to see what a bigger size would look like. He did not specifically say the size, just that it was one size bigger than the 430 cc & we both liked the way it looked but he told me that he would not do that size for me. Supposedly, he said that if I were to go a size bigger than the 430 cc, my body would not be able to handle it.
Answer: Over implantation frequently requires revision Unfortunately, you have not told us your bra size but if you are 32 or 34 each 100 cc’s of implant corresponds to 1 cup size change. If you are 36 or 38 each 200 cc’s of implant corresponds to 1 cup size change. From this, you can compute the volume required to achieve your desired goal. I always recommend small round textured silicone gel implants placed retro-pectoral since they look and feel more natural, are more stable, less likely to ripple or have complications needing revision. Implant profile is irrelevant in the retro-pectoral position since the muscle compresses it. It is possible that you cannot handle a 430 cc implant. This occurs because the implant is displaced by gravity and is compressed by the pectoralis major muscle and extrudes inferiorly and laterally. 22% of women of who undergo breast augmentation require revision within 2 years because they are dissatisfied with the result. Over implantation is a frequent cause of revisions.Best Wishes,Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: Risks of too large breast implants Thank you for your question. Risks of going with too large breast implants, which I consider over 500 cc, include an increased risk of capsular contraction or hardening of the breast implant, wound healing problems, and even the possibility of extrusion or loss of implant. Please consult a plastic surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, experienced in breast surgery, and who has an excellent reputation in your community.

Answer: Going "Too Big" on Breast Implants This is a very important topic, and I have this same discussion with patients often. One one hand, as a surgeon we want to meet your size expectations, but the other and are the limits of what your tissues can safely accept. There is a limit to how much the skin, ligaments, and tissues of the breast can stretch and exceeding those limits can result in deformities that are very hard to correct. Two such deformities that can come from oversized breast implants are "double bubble" deformity and synmastia. These are difficult conditions to correct and can be quite a bit more expensive than the original augmentation.Breasts that have good skin elasticity, or have been larger in the past from weight gain, pregnancy, and breast feeding usually have some extra skin and can be made quite a bit larger than breasts that have always been very small. You will often hear doctors talking about choosing an implant that fits "within the dimensions of the breast." It is very important to work with your surgeon on this, and not base your didscssions soley on the "cc's."

Answer: Risks of "going one size bigger" with breast implants If you are referring to one size bigger meaning a cup size bigger, that would be a drastic change. One size bigger for implants in the you are discussing is usually only 25 cc or so and really doesn't make much of a difference. The most important thing is to discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon prior to the surgery so that you can be sure you both understand the goals of the surgery. Good luck!

Answer: Implant size You must rely on your surgeon's advise. The silicone implants are heavy and to really see a significant differnce in the size of your breasts, one size larger may not be enough. I suspect your surgeon is experienced enough to advise you as to what is in your best interest.I wish you well !
