Labiaplasty Scar Permanent?

Hello, I am currently 5 weeks post op. I am satisfied with the overall shape, but there is a color difference between my labia and the area of the sutures. I had a wedge method, therefore, the stitches are horizontal right in the middle my labia. It is on both side and much pinker. The major color difference is so obvious. It does not hurt at all, but does feel abit hard from the stitches that havent dissolved yet. Is this permanent or an early stage of healing?

Labiaplasty scars

The scars from a labiaplasty typically heal so well that they are difficult to detect. The labia continue to soften as the swelling resolves over several months. Patient satisfaction is very high in my experience.

Concern for scars at 5 weeks

Five weeks is early in the process of healing. If your scars follow the normal healing process, then they will soften and the redness should fade out over the coming months. Although incisions close after surgery in 1-2 weeks, it takes months for scars to mature and stabilize. Scar massage can help speed the process. If you have continued concern or believe that the scarring is not normal, then by all means return to see your doctor who performed the surgery. more

Labioplasty post op healing

Dear curiousformore, All scars are red/pink for some months post op. The firmness of any scar is expected and usually softens over 6 months. I suggest that you discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon so he can examine your operative site and check for any early post op abnormalities. Good luck

Labiaplasty Scars

At 5 weeks you are still quite early in the healing process. While there are some permanent scars and suture marks, the firmness and reaction from the sutures should improve with time. By 6 to 12 months your body will have matured the scars.

Labiaplasty scar

As everyone here has staed, it is way to earlyto judge a scar at five weeks, and the firmness you are feeling is also normal. This is also a downside to the Wedge technique however, If you end up with a bad scar it is much more apparent with the wedge technique than the trim technique. most scars can be succesfully revised however, but I would wait atleast 6-9 months for a second surgery. Good Luck

Pigment changes

Pigment changes around the suture line are often times temporary. The pigment changes mat resolve with ongoing healing. Full re-pigmentation /healing of the scar can take up to 12-18 months.

Labiaplasty correction San Diego

The color difference is likely from mis-alignment of the margin between your inner pink mucosal surface and outer darker cutaneous surface. One advantage of the wedge method of labiaplasty is that this problem is easy to correct. The revision should be straightforward, can be done on one or both sides as needed, under local anesthesia in the office. Bring this issue to the surgeon who performed your initial procedure.

Labiaplasty

The current color will improve with time. This is a natural result of scarring process. I recommend that you wait a bit longer, i.e. several more months, and then see your plastic surgeon if things haven't improved.

Scar from labiaplasty

You describe a very typical appearance of an early scar - does not sound like there is anything wrong at all. Please allow the scar time (a few months) to settle down. Consider regularly massaging the scar with some moisturising cream.

Probably just early....

Hello, You won't really know how things are going to be long term for several months. Some of the firmness which is scar tissue can take 6-12 months to mature completely. It is a gradual process and varies by patient and with an individual surgeon's exact technique. Best Regards, John Di Saia MD

Labiaplasty scars

At 5 weeks you are still healing. If it feels firm along the incision and looks more pink or dark than the skin next to it, that is a normal part of the healing process. The incisions soften and fade over time, but how fast and how completely depends on how you heal. Surgical technique can help minimize scars from a technical standpoint, but how well your body heals also influences your ultimate scar. I would definitely keep close followup with your surgeon until you are healed. That way any... more

Scar Post Labiaplasty

Hi Asked 3 days ago by curiousformore in ny, For sure, 5 weeks is too early to make an assessment as to the permanent appearance of this (or any other) surgical site. And pink areas around the sutures sites and in the regions where the stitches were is common. It can take up to a year or more for scars to mature completely, and that includes the return of pigmentation. That being said there are, of course, no absolute guarantees - just information as to what's most... more

Labiaplasty scar

HI, I agree with the other advice given. 5 weeks is too early to tell what the scar is going to look like. Even pigment changes can improve when the inflammation dies down. The sutures under the skin take up to 3-4 months to dissolve and act as a continuing irritant to the overlying tissue. You can massage the labia gently with moisturizing lotion and be patient. The results should improve over time. All my best, Daniel A. Medalie, MD
