What Kind of Revision Surgery is Available to Lengthen the Nose?

Though I asked the surgeon to keep the shape of the right side of my nose, (to remove a bulge from collapsed cartilage and make the two sides match), , he considerably shortened my nose and the nose is somewhat scooped rather than straight. It has an irradiated cartilage implant. Is it possible to make the nose straight and to lengthen it back to my normal length? Thank you.

Lengthening the Nose in Revision Rhinoplasty

There are certainly techniques for lengthening the nose in revision rhinoplasty. The most common maneuver I perform in these cases is to use what are called extended spreader grafts. These are long straight pieces of cartilage sutured to either side of the septum to push down the tip and thereby lengthen the nose. These can be safely created from the cartilage of your septum if there is enough left there after your prior surgery. Rib cartilage is an alternative source for these grafts as... more

Lengthening a nose.

Lengthening a nose typically requires grafting to the nasal tip. This will require donor sites typically your ear or rib. Irradiated cartilage, tends to work better in the bridge and not as predictably in the tip.

Revision surgery to lengthen nose involve grafts

It is very difficult to lengthen a short nose. Multiple different grafts can be obtained, either from the patient’s nose, ear, or rib. Synthetic implants are sometimes well tolerated but used very conservatively. Extended spreader grafts can also be used to help lengthen the nose.

Lengthening the Nose

There are many techniques used to lenghen the nose in revision rhinoplasty surgery; choice depends on the needs of each individual patient. Most procedures involve the use of the patient's own cartilage.

Short noses can be lengthened

There are a number of procedures that can be performed to lengthen a short nose. They require a number of grafts. I usually prefer to use your own cartilage. For a primary surgery septal and possibly ear cartilage is sufficient. In a revision rhinoplasty, often rib cartilage is necessary to lengthen a short nose, especially if it is "scooped" as well. I suggest you seek out a specialist in revision rhinoplasty since this is a very challenging, yet rewarding, procedure. more

Revision rhinoplasty

It is difficult to say whether or not your nose can be restored to its original form.  A consult would be necessary.

A non-surgical rhinoplasty will not lengthen your nose, but it may improve the "scooped" appearance of your nasal bridge.

Nasal lengthening to improve a short nose after prior rhinoplasty surgery is often difficult, and results may fall short of expectations. If your bridge is still too low after an irradiated cartilage implant, this may be improved with an Injectable Filler treatment. My preference of fillers is Silikon-1000 for permanent results. I hope this is helpful for you.
