Juvederm side effects - discussion

My derm told me there's no difference between juvederm and restylane. She said both gave long lasting natural looking results for wrinkle treatment. but googled juvederm and their official site sure makes it sound more effective. Has anyone heard about Juvederm side effects?

I just got juv in smile lines and mar lines. I notice nothing yet. This was about 8 hrs ago. I hope this fills out! because if not I am going to be disappointed. I have read on the Juv sight that results are right then. (whatever!) As far as lips, I had mine injected about a yr ago with silicone, yes-SILICONE! And I love them! The result is LIFETIME and the cost was about $600. I have had several strangers walk up to me and say "wow u have beautiful lips!"... I guess most Drs will not use this openly and may keep it for 'certain' patients. I wouldn't give his name, but i love him for it.

I had Juvederm for the hollows filled under my eyes. I will NEVER use that stuff again. The Doctor injected too much. I don`t even want to be seen in public. One eye has a bag, the other one doesn`t. You can see exactly where the Juvederm was put in. There are bumps. It doesn`t look natural. I have an appointment next week to have the Doctor inject some stuff to dissolve it. I looked better before the Juvederm, and over $1,000 down the drain. I am going to fight to get my money back. Don`t EVER get Juvederm under your eyes !!!!!!!!

Hi, I had Juvederm injected around my lip area. My lips are too thin and I wanted to get rid of some lines around my upper and lower lip area, too. Juvederm is great! My problem was I don't think the plastic surgeon was experienced enough with it to do it correctly. He was certainly supposed to be one of the best surgeons in this town but injecting Juvederm is different than a cutting face lift. On one side of the upper lip he injected it too close to the outline of my thin lips which made that side fold under and in and looked even thinner than before. Agh!! Then he omitted putting some at the top of the lip. It looked cockeyed. He filled in the top of one side and omitted the other. When I asked him what I was to do. He said well, you know how to use lip liner, don't you.. Oh, brother, I thought. This guy does not take pride in his work....does not know enough about the Juvederm and I don't want to complain because he still has to do the other side and lower lip area, yet! He was charging me over $600 for this. I saw a video of a professional injecting Juvederm around a woman's lip line but did not go so close to the actual line of the lips. The Juvederm filled in and completely removed the lines around the mouth. Then, to outline the lips she used collagen. It is a thinner liquid and easier to work with. There seems to be better control and with long insertions rather than point injections they release the collagen gently and consistantly smooth (not too deep either or you're filling in the inside of your lips and it won't outline the lips correctly)..until the needle comes out of the skin. This creates a great lip line and your lip does not fold into your mouth causing you to loose more lip. Juvederm is a thicker consistancy and seems to be a trial to handle but lasts almost a year! I don't know how the combination of Juvederm, which lasts a year, and the Collagen which lasts only a few months will look in a few months???? You may need more Collagen in a few months to continue the contour since the Juvederm outlasts Collagen. Or, maybe, there is a way to insert the Juvederm so that the lip does not fold in when you outline the lip area and all you need is Juvederm????? My advice to you or anyone is be sure you have a competent Professional doing your injections. "EXPERIENCED". Someone that is truly knowledgeable of this product. Someone that is a caring artist that takes pride in his/her work! Try to get them to show you pictures of their work. I don't think that is too much to ask. They must be experienced with this product because it is "great stuff". If they only know how to use it properly.... SO YOUR LIPS ARE NOT LOPSIDED. I am going to try it, again. But, I must find a good Professional to inject it. Maybe, they could or you could pencil outline your lips like you want them as a guideline for the Professional to follow? There is a pen with dye that can easily be washed away and might be a great help to the Professional and you in providing the plan/map of what you want.

I had juvederm injections uner my tear ducts 6 days ago, and am disappointed in how it looks so far. They did not tell me in my initial appointment that I would bruise, plus I have bumps now that are worse than the hollows were. At least they looked natural. I didn't know if I just got a "rookie" (she was an RN) doing the injections, or if enough time has not passed yet. Hopefully this will get better!!

I had restylane about 6 weeks ago on the deep lines from the side of my nose down to the outside of my smile. Also enhanced lips a bit. I absolutely cannot see any improvement anymore. Could only see it for about 3 weeks. Plus I pea size lumps in the deep lines, and smaller ones in my lips. I paid over 1,000. I would definately say it's NOT worth it!

Help! I had juvederm put into my top lip only on MON morning. I went home looking like I was hit by a truck. Now it is two days later, and although some of the swelling has subsided, the top lip is still WAY too big! I stressed to my PS over and over that I did not want the top lip to be bigger than my lower (which is pretty full to begin with), and now the top one is still almost twice as large and I still have some duck lip going on. Is two days too soon to see the final results? I am still pretty bruised, and my lip is still tender to the touch. When I called my PS yesterday, she said for the first few days, everyone hates her (lol), and I can expect to still be bruised and swollen for a few days. I just feel like I can't go out of the house yet, and I am worried that she overfilled the lip. Am I freaking out too soon? Does it sometimes take more than 2 days for all of the swelling to go away?

I am 54 and have frown lines and Nasolabial Lines as my presenting areas of aging. Since I have bangs (which could mask any bad results)- I decided to try the Restylane (along with botox) in my very deep single frown line. It gave me a chance to see if I liked the product and see what the doctor's skill was in injections. In case I was not happy I would not do the Nasolabial Lines. I am very fair and tend to be alergic. So, I remained swollen longer than the average person - I also had redness for at least a week maybe even 10 days. However, the effects were immediate on my frown line and I was thrilled with the results. That was Nov just before Thanksgiving. By about early April, I started thinking I needed a touch up. I still looked MUCH better than my original line. Only needed a touch up. So, today on May 1 - I went for my 2nd treatment. This time I went with Juvederm Ultra Plus and also did the folds on my Nasolabial Lines. I had felt comfortable at this point with the doctors skills in injections. My entire treatment was 2 viles of Juvederm Ultra Plus and 2 areas of Botox. As I expected - the Nasolabial Lines have redness. I also have a little itching, slight swelling and slight bruising. But - I immediatly see the results. Also, it is softer (which I like) than the Restylane. And, it did not cost me that much more. My advise is: Consider starting with something safe if it is your first time and you don't know the skill of the doctor. Maybe use a product your first time that disolves the fastest so that if you don't like the results - you won't wait long for it to go away. Restylane will begin to go away by 4 months. For sure - Try to use a doctor that you know does good injections. I have two friends that go to a "clinic" in a mall and they don't have the same person do the injections. I like using the same doctor who can get to know my skin and how I respond to treatents. And, he too comes to know what works for me. During my treatment: My doctor DID put pressure on the injection site and even put his fingers inside my cheeks to make sure he was happy with the smoothness. He also asked me to keep my head back and ice on for several min. with pressure on the injection sites. I feel this is all a help for the injection to have the best result. I'll try to write and update after my injection side effects go away. But, if I adapt to the injections the same way I did the Restylane I expect to be fully happy. Again - I think the MOST important choice is the doctor. Good luck! PS - I forgot to write the most important part. After my frown line treatment. Everyone kept saying - "What's different? You look great". I'd always say "New hairdresser"... I could tell they wondered. :)

I have been getting treatments for my lips and nasal folds for years and I can say with certainty that both Juvederm and Restylane give amazing results. It all depends on the level of expertise of the person injecting you. Make sure you go to someone who has a proven track record. I have finally found a woman who is licensed to perform this treatment and she is far better than the two plastic surgeons I used to go to. An analogy would be to think of an artist using paints. The painting will only be as good as the talent of the artist even though the paint may be of very best quality.
