hello. I have an iud and was wondering if it would have to be taken out before I have my TT procedure? I've had the iud for about 2 years now. Thank you.

No need to remove IUD

I have done many tummy tucks on patients with IUD’s in place. I see no reason for it to be removed pre operatively. I recommend that you present this question to the board-certified plastic surgeon who will be performing your surgery.

The one thing you do not want is to becoe pregnant. You should not have a tummy tuck if you are not sure. This a protective devise and gives you comfort in birth control. This is very responsible. see video

Tummy tuck is just fine with IUD in place!

There is no adverse effect on elective tummy tuck for a woman with an IUD. I have done several, and there is no benefit to having it removed priot to surgery. If it was, you may have the potential for unknown effects from anesthesia or medications on a very early pregnancy. Please leave your IUD in place if it is causing no concerns, let it do its job, and proceed with your tummy tuck without worries from this standpoint! Best wishes!

No problem having a tummy tuck with an IUD in place

There is no problem whatsoever having an IUD in place while undergoing a tummy tuck. As long as you are not having any issues with it - leave it alone.

You don't have to take it out

Unless there is a problem with the IUD, you can proceed with tummy tuck. Many patient who undergo body ccontouring procedures have an IUD placed or use other methods of contraception. If there is a concern about the IUD, then you probably have to discuss that with your GYN.

If your IUD is not causing problems before the tummy tuck, it should not cause problems during or after the tummy tuck either. No need to remove an IUD before abdominoplasty.
