Is Restylane best for marionette lines?

I'm 35 years old, and I have several medium marionette lines on the sides of my mouth. It almost looks like my face is gaunt (especially in the cheek area), and it doesn't help that I have a narrow face. I have been looking into fillers--namely Restylane. Is this treatment best for someone like me, or should I go for other fillers?

A: Filler alone may not be enough

Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse, etc., can all be used to fill in nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Your picture shows lines on the inside of the cheeks. These are technically not marionette lines. As Dr. Sattler said, it would be good to see your picture when you are not smiling. Folds and lines that are... more

A: Yes, for you.

Hello, monarchbutterfly, again, You have a nice lower face, and I think well placed fillers will help your  lines a lot. Going by your picture, I think Restylane is the best choice for you.  It is quite long lasting (up to 6 months), and it is also forgiving.  This is important for you, because... more

A: Restylane is a great option

We have found Restylane to work great for patients with similar situation. It helps to provide both volume and needed structural support for skin. Your doctor will assess your particular case further, including your facial anatomy, smile pattern, skin texture, and general health. Restylane treatment... more

It would be interesting to see your face in repose- with no facial expression- to get a sense of the depth of your Marionette lines, and to see if you have a pre-jowl sulcus. A fine marionette line can be filled with virtually any filler. I'm favoring Evolence for this application because of its ease of... more

A: Restylane Good Choice

I prefer Retylane in this area since it is a little "stiffer" and will give you more support. Some might argue for a deeper filler such as Perlane 9deeper version of Restylane) or Juvederm Ultra Plus, but I think you would do fine with Restylane.      Good luck.

A: Marionette line filler

I find that for deeper lines usually in the "marionette" area, that Perlane is a better option or layering Perlane deep and Restylane on top of that. However, the picture that you show here, one needs to balance expectations, as if the lines you are shooting for are really tied into your natural... more

Restylane is very good for marionette lines because after treatment it looks natural. However restylane may not be enough, especially if you have sagging skin in the jowles area.  Then you might need a surgical face lift of thread lift.  Hormone replacement therapy may be an option to consider.

Monarchbutterfly Since your only 35 I personaly would avoid surgery..Restylane would work well for you.. You could try restylane in and along your cheeks to give your face more width this might lift the other areas while giving you more balance towards a heartshape..Our faces get more oval as we age... It's subtle but makes a big difference... If you like the result it would make since to get micro fat injections They are more permenant if done correctly and can erase 10 years giving long term correction.. The plus side of fat is it also provides benefits to your skin it is rich in stem cells and some doctors are extracting and concentrating them to heal wounds ect.. UVA did a study using fat injections to heal veterans injuries who are burned and need skin grafts ect with good success... Check out Dr Giampapa website he offers a stem cell facelift... I don't know if this is a fad marketing name for micro fat grafting..But it makes sense that treating the area receiving the fat injection with growth factors would ensure more of the fats survival increasing vessels to connect.. I think it's VEGF of the factors that does this.. This might ensure more of the fats survival so doctors don't have to overinject. Guessing what will survive or remain....lowering downtime, swelling and providing more predictable results.... Why many doctors prefer the HA fillers... I would find a doctor in your area or one that is reasonable to travel to who specializes in micro fat grafting before you opt for surgery...You can try Restylane first to see if you like it.. But depending on how many syringes they use it might cost as much as the fat grafting and you will have to wait for it to go away somewhat before you move forward with fat.... Dr. Law on this site might be able to refer someone closer to you..I have emailed with some of his patients who all adore him and said the improvement in their skin texture ect was drastic after the fat injection.. I have been researching fat grafting to repair laser damage I'm not a doctor but hope this helps you find the best least invasive, longlasting solution.. I have found the best way to judge a doctors artful eye and skill is to view many pictures of before/afters of the procedure your interested in this also ensures they have performed the procedure often Best Wishes and Good luck
