Does IPL Hair Reduction Actually Increase Hair Growth?

I have had 2 treatments on my full face of ipl hair reduction\removal. My beautician and friend both have warned me against further treatments.

They have said that the treatment bursts the initial hair follicle which then splatters into multiple follicles resulting in increased and coarser hair, like a mans beard, not instantly but after a few years. Is this true?
