Gaps can be closed with Invisalign
The gaps are measured and calculated to see if you qualify for invisalign treatment. It can be determined ahead of time if it will work for you or not. Sometimes gaps are caused from teeth being pushed way out in front.."Buck teeth". In that case just pulling them back into alignment will close the gaps and invisalign can do that very well but it all depends on your bite and the way your front teeth fit together.

Extreme tooth movement is best done with traditional braces
While something may be POSSIBLE with Invisalign, it may take a much longer time to accomplish than using brackets and wires.

Invisalign good at closing spaces (as long as they are not too large)
Invisalign is effective at closing spaces that are small-moderate (on average no more than 4-5mm). If the space is larger than that and requires movement of large teeth, like premolars and molars, then braces may be more effective at getting space closure.
