Can Invisalign Correct Midline Asymmetry?

The midline of my upper teeth is not aligned to that of my lower ones (about 3mm off), and I have two "bites" - one makes my face really asymmetrical and the other one's better. I wonder if Invisalign can move one side of my upper teeth more than the other, so in the end I'll have only the more symmetrical bite. I asked a couple of orthodontists and one said it can be done w/ combination of rubber band. Is it true? How long will it take?

Invisalilgn and midline asymmetry

Fundamentally Invisalign is best at straightening flat teeth, like incisors. It's not so good at bite corrections. So if the midline asymmetry is a symptom of a bite problem Invsalign may not correct it. If on the other hand your back teeth bite properly, and the midline discrepancy is due to front tooth positions, then Invisalign may correct the midline somewhat. In general, 3 mm is a lot of midline correction with Invisalign even with the use of elastics. more

Newest version of Invisalign works for midline correction

W/the newest version of Invisalign, incorporating special attachments and elastics (rubber bands), it  is possible to correct midline asymmetries.  In more severe cases (more than 2-3 MM) sometimes conventional orthodontics is a better choice.  Once your dentist or orthodontist takes a look at you, he/she should be better able to lead you in the right direction.

Invisalign and midline correction

Invisalign easily can correct midline discrepancy from 1-2 mm in most cases. If it is bigger, elastics would be necessary most likely. It is very hard to diagnose without seeing a patient, so the right thing to do is to a have a consultation. In our office we offer it at no charge. Good luck, Dr. Ayzin
