If you have had 3 umbilical hernia repairs, will insurance pay for the hernia repair and the Tummy Tuck? This will be my 4th surgery for hernia repair.

Hi there- Regardless of your carrier and the reason for surgery, I have unfortunately never seen a tummy tuck get covered by insurance in the United States. If you want a tummy tuck, I would recommend you visit with a surgeon certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery for a consultation, and most qualified plastic surgeons are able to repair umbilical hernias at the time of the tummy tuck (I have never had one recur after this procedure). Insurance and hernia repair or tummy tuck

A tummy tuck is always cosmetic, no matter what. But, a panniculectomy (removal of the skin without repairing the underlying muscle or moving the belly button) may be considered medically necessary in certain situations. Insurances usually do not consider a panniculectomy necessary to fix a hernia.
