Infraorbital Nerve Cutted (Totally)?

My maxillofacial suregon told me that my infraorbtial canal is totally damaged - not patent due to overlooked zygomatic-maxillary fracture. Hence infraorbital nerve is cutted or perhaps one or few febers left. If so, why I have still about 80-90% of normal sensation. Could it be true ? Perhaps misdiagnosis?
