Can Infection, Pain and Swollen Mouth (face) Occur After Prepping a Tooth Under Temp Crown?

I have had a tooth prepped and temporary crown inserted, before root canal and crown lenghtening procedure. After my tooth was prepped the pulsating pain didn't go away my mouth got swollen and inflamed. What could went wrong ? My mom worked with jaw & oral surgent for thirty five years and she never heard about the symptoms that I've got after just prepping a tooth under a crown.

Infection Pain and Swelling After Prepping a Tooth

The nerve may have been extremely irritated or exposed during the prep. See your dentist or endodontist (Root Canal Specialist) ASAP to see about starting Root Canal Treatment.
