Can Implants Be Placed over the Muscle if I Had Them Placed Under Them Muscle Previously?

A few years back I had implants placed under the muscle instead of over, I now which I'd had them placed over the muscle. I know I'm supposed to eventually have them replaced and I'm wondering if I can have the implants placed over the muscle for the second go-around. Thanks!

Under to over: changing the breast implant pocket.

Yes, it is possible to go from under to over. This may potentially lead to a greater visibility of any implant ripples as well as a higher risk of capsular contracture and may potentially interfere with interpretation of mammograms.

Switching from under to over

YES, you certainly may have your implants moved from under to over the muscle.  There is a small chance that you might need a breast lift at that time, depending on your breast volume, skin quality, and implant size.  Talk to your surgeon about your goals.  Keep in mind that implants placed over the muscle have a higher chance of being palpable and visible, and they have a higher risk of developing capsular contracture.

Switching implant pockets

An implant that is placed subglandular can certainly be switched to a submuscular pocket or what is referred to as a dual plane.  This is done quite frequently for rippling.
