Implant Exchange. Second Opinion Needed?

Have 550 CC want to go down to 350 CC know this will require internal bra? Had pocket switch for over to under casulectomy both implants and lift doughnut maxopexy. Know this requires major renovation and internal bra procedure/reducing pocket size. My present surgeon says he promises I will have complications if try to go down to 350 of either Capsular Contraction from the pocket reduction/internal bra scarring issues or symmetry problems. He says remove and compress? Other options?

Implant Exchange Second Opinion Recommended

Implant revision at times can be one of the more challenging cases facing a plastic surgeon as so many factors are involved. That is why plastic surgery is considered an inexact science and art form. Your wishes to go from 550 cc to 350 cc can usually be accomplished with a lift of one sort or another and often internal pocket reduction (also called capsulorraphy). For other options other than you were offered, I would recommend you being evaluated for a second opinion by a... more

Implant exchange with lower volume

I think you may be able to reduce pocket size with a majot capsulorraphy. I would give that a try prior to removing and starting over. Frankly, wht I just gave you is an example of " the reckless abandon of the non-combatant". All the best, Talmage Raine MD FACS drraine.com

Replacing Implants for Smaller Ones

Hi there- I think your goals for appearance should be possible, but would strongly caution you against choosing a procedure based on advice you are given in an online forum... Understanding the best procedure for you and its alternatives would definitely require a more thorough understanding of what has gone on in the past, how it was done, and your current examination. The very best advice I could give you is to find a surgeon in your area with a lot of experience doing... more

Implant exchange

When it comes to revision surgery on the breast, online consultation will not help you. There are several things to consider prior to determining what surgery is appropriate. My advice for you is to see a board certified plastic surgeon. During the consultation address your concerns and take photos with you. Rview the surgeons before and after photos then discuss the surgical plan. I hope this helps W

Revisionary Breast Surgery Options?

Given your past surgical history, online consultation will not do justice ( provide precise enough recommendations to you). My best advice is for you to meet with well experienced board-certified plastic surgeons who can demonstrate significant experience with revisionary breast surgery. Ask to see lots of examples of his/her work. Communicate your goals clearly ( I prefer the use of goal pictures). Best wishes.

Implant exchange

Exchanging implants in and of itself does not cause a capusular contracture. Going smaller can be done, but an internal capsulorrhaphy is probably needed to make the pocket a bit smaller. Good luck.

Implant downsizing

Hi, replacing implants with smaller ones does not cause capsular contracture. you dont mention what kind/shape and profile implants you have right now and what kind/shape and profile implants you are looking to replace them with. in addition, without pictures and physical examination you will not be able to get an accurate opinion. since you have had more than one surgery already including a lift and change of pocket, my advise is to consult with other board... more

Replacing implants

I don't believe there is an increased risk of capsular contracture with the placement of smaller implants. I do think you may need to consider further revision of your mastopexy. Compression is not needed.

Implant exchange second opinion

I would certainly advise you to get a second or even third opinion about this surgery. It sounds like it could be complicated and you should ask to see examples of his work with this particular procedure. There is no evidence that reducing implant size will cause capsule contracture. Make sure your surgeon isa board certified plastic surgeon.

Smaller implants

Dear shelly3113, It is very difficult to give you an appropriate answer without seeing your pictures. However, as a general rule, reducing your implants size from 550cc to 350cc should not cause capsule contracture and should not require internal bra unless you have other issues that without a picture are impossible to comment on. Since you had already a mini lift procedure before, you might need additional skin tightening due to the skin laxity that might... more

Breast implant exchange second opinion

Photos would be a great aid to discussing your case. Hopefully you are seeing a board certified plastic surgeon. I am not aware that decreasing implant size has anything to do with capsular contracture, but certainly you may have complications with regard to symmetry (and many other issues) after any surgery. I do not think you have to have the implants removed, the area compressed, and a delayed re-augmentation, but certainly that is one way to proceed. Best of luck to you. more
